PL/SQL Developer, as the name implies, is oriented to heavy-duty Oracle development activities, less so as a DBA tool.
However, as a "development DBA", "data modeler" and "database architect", I've found there are certain tasks frequently required where the system DBA is not needed. But since PL/SQL Developer doesn't have the feature, I have to open TOAD or OEM to get it done.
With recent additions in v7 and v8, I've had to open TOAD less and less. One task I continue to need TOAD for is in exploring, managing and refreshing materialize views and refresh groups. I would LOVE it if Allround could find the time to add support in v8.1 for refresh groups in the Browser, and right-click support to view, edit and refresh groups and MVs.
The only other reason I still open TOAD is to reverse engineer the DCL behind tablespaces, to see how full tablespaces are, and to extend or add more files to tablespaces. These are typically DBA tasks though, so I wouldn't expect these to show up in PL/SQL Developer. I'm just sayin'...
Thanks.
