why not all commands from the menu could be added as a button to the toolbar, or and action from a popup menu could be assigned to a shortcut,
for example when in sql window and standing on table name pressing a shortcut key would query table data

This is possible. Go to Tools > Preferences > Key configuration and assign a key to "Object: Query Data" (or Edit Data).
