This is nothing more than eye candy. Well it may be functional as it may help you locate a folder much more quickly if your tables folder was a bright red looking table icon or something.

Would it be possible to allow the user to switch the object folders to icons they want. So the table folder would look like a table or what ever I want it to look like(within the required size of a icon). The java source folder would look like a cup of coffee etc.

In 6.0 you can assign colors to folders. You can also add your own folders and folder nesting. So it can be easier to quickly find folders or objects.

No, this will not be possible. You can place them in different folders though.
