comment highlighting has stopped happening

Hi,

we have a copy of plsqldeveloper where all highlighting has ceased. eg if i type

--this is a comment

it does not get highlighted although it is recognised as a comment.

it is enabled in tools>preferences>editor>syntaxhighlighting

and another user has it set up the same way on their pc and it works
