The preferences dialog uses two different color-picker tools. One has a "default color" option and is used for example on Appearance->Background Gradient. The other allows for manual entry of colors and is used for example on Appearance->Connection Indicators.
The ability to manually enter a color is one I've wanted a few times, especially on things like fonts and backgrounds. I've worked around it by manually editing the ini-files, but it would be nice to be able to do it through the app.
