on a normal win xp 32 bit machine we have set up a register entry in a text file and just merge them with any new machine and query writer then finds all needed files on a common drive. however it wont work on a win xp 64 machine. is there anything special that needs to be done for a win xp 64 machine. we dont want to put client on every machine that needs to access just a few reports. confused

ora 12154 - ora 24365 are 2 of the errors. Everyone uses the same tnsnames.ora and other machines don't have a problem. just this xp 64. I have 4 more xp 64 machine to install after this one. one of these errors solution on the web is talking about multibyte not terminating correctly.

another error message is that sql*net not properly installed.

I have made sure the path on the machine match path on other machine for the bin and other tools, i have copy the tnsname local and put first path to that directory...

figure it out. i had to put the 9i client on the machine to get a good error message. seems that oracle will not allow a machine name with a underscore in it. only figure that out when i reviewed the sqlnet.log file while was only generated after i had the the 9i client on. the true error was "fatal ni connect error 6413".
