Have you tried to isolate the problem? There were some issues with Beautifier x Breakpoint/Bookmarks. Try to clear these before compiling.

There are 10 types of people: those who know binary and those who don't.

It is random. I have found no way to isolate it. It may have nothing to do with the beautifier at all. I've disabled my beautifier and am trying to see if it is related. I can tell you that after I kill the process I go back in and compile what I was working on and it works. We are using Oracle 9.2.0.6 but that is the only thing that is consistent. It is happening across multiple databases across multiple machines.

I will take your advice concerning breakpoints (don't use bookmarks). Is there a fix in place for that? Seems like a big issue to me.... Thanks,
Dave

We have not been able to reproduce this. If you have a reproducible scenario, please let me know.

Its random. It won't work one time, it works the next. The 6.x and 7.0 versions didn't have the problem and that is what most of my people are going back to frown

Thanks anyway,
Dave

Did you check that maybe some other user is executing programs on referenced functions, procedure or triggers on teables?

I had same problem using dbms_alert package(had job executing procedure in wait mode...).

I can say that I know in some cases it couldn't have been others using the objects, they were in (say) my schema and not usable by others. I know that it can't the dbms_alert as that isn't used very much in our system. Thanks for the info though.. I'll watch for it.

I can also say that since I have turned off the automatic beautifier that I haven't had the issue but this is random so it could happen several times today. As stated above however, there isn't a problem with using the beautifier on the package/function/etc. because when I go back in I do the exact same thing on the exact same code and it works.

Thanks for the info!

Dave

Update: I have had my beautifier off for several days now and the problem has gone away. There is a bug on this, I have no doubt. At least now I can work around it. For any others who encounter this, simply turn off your beautifier before compile, that worked for me.

I understand now. It is a problem with the breakpoints. This is still an issue in 7.1.2.1362. If I have my beautifier turned on with "Before Compile" and I have a breakpoint, I can now reproduce this at will... It will lock up the program. Since it isn't fixed in the current version, is there an ETA on when it might be fixed? This is a pretty big use-ability issue.

Thanks,
Dave
