Variable highlighting: change color

If there is a way to change the highlight color of variable highlighting? If not please add to feature wish list.

I like changing the background of the program window to black and the text to green (for a really cool retro look - plus much easier to read) but when variables are highlighted in gray (the default color), I can't read the green text.

Yes, this is the "Highlight color" from the Editor preferences (Tools > Preferences > User Interface / Editor).
