The following tests were done using PL/SQL Developer v10.0.1.1694:
I have a project with 45 windows using 9 different connections. When I open this one with unchecked preference "Automatically close unused connections" it opens in about 1 min 20 sec, already quite long but somewhat acceptable. When I close this project again it just takes a few seconds.
However if I reopen the same project with checked preference "Automatically close unused connections" it takes now about 6 min 20 sec, almost 5 times as long!! to open, which is completely unacceptable. Worse yet is that it takes the same amount of time now - 6 min 20 sec - to close too!! All you see this whole time is a sandclock while during opening you at least see the slow motion opening of windows.
Then I did the test using PL/SQL Developer v9.0.6.1665
The same projected opened then within 30 sec.
I noticed a lot of other performance degradations with v10. When you do "Compare User Objects" it's a lot slower in v10 while it has been quite slow already in v9 anyway.
