Upgrade 15 to 16.

Are you certain there's no way to upgrade from version 15 to version 16? Our management purchased version 15(a 5 user license pack) earlier this year, and now version 16 has been released without an upgrade path from version 15. Version 15 has significant stability issues, making it difficult to work effecively.

If you go to the PL/SQL Developer order page and click on the "Upgrade your licenses to the latest version" option, you can see the prices if you select your current license pack and current version.

For example: to upgrade a PL/SQL Developer Single User License from 15.0 to 16.0, the price would be USD 72.90.

Marco, when we can expect stability fixes on ver 15? We must stay that version, because we recently paid support for whole year. It is really s.it policy ..

It is recommended up upgrade to version 16 for current and future enhancements. A support contract does not entitle you to an upgrade, but remains valid after an upgrade. If you have a current support contract, you can contact sales@allroundautomations.com for an upgrade offer.

It sounds like we wouldn't gain anything at all by getting a year's support for version 15 next year, because no new updates will happen anyway. So, there's really only one option and that is to pay for the upgrade. I guess I'm not clear why the other option is available then.

Also, it does seem like version 16 has been way more stable than 15. I was using 14, because of stability problems with 15 and I haven't had the issues with version 16.

I must admit that I'd missed the change in licence terms that came about in 2023 - I assumed that we were still in a 'support and upgrades' situation after our August renewal.

So... what does a version 15 support contract give me?

It sounds like version 15 is now EOL, so there's not going to be any further(!) bug-fixes (the last one was in June 2023) and I've wasted my companies money on 3 months of support before the new version arrived?

A support contract applies to your currently licensed version. If you have version 15.0, it applies to 15.0. If you upgrade to 16.0, it carries over to 16.0.

If the support contract was purchased with the perception that it would cover upgrades, you can send an e-mail to sales@allroundautomations.com and refer to this forum topic. I am sure we can quickly and easily come to a satisfactory solution.

Marco,

Thanks for the quick response. I've contacted Sales, and they've offered a reduced upgrade price.

Unfortunately, the powers-that-be have decided that since they've just paid for a couple of years of support for a product that didn't need/wasn't updated during that time, there's not much need for a new support contract. And as version 15 has worked for us during that time, there's not much need for a new version...

Hopefully, there will be a change of mind, but until then...

I think this confused my bill-payers. What use is a support contract for a product that is not fixed to address raised issues?

You will get technical support, and for serious issues we can provide fix backports if possible. But in general it is of course best to keep your product version up-to-date.
