Small font letters are being chopped by symbols background.

That happens in editor window:

I believe that symbol background somehow causing it.
Also everything is alright in fonts preferences editor window:

Font: Courier New 10px.

Another example with Consolas 10px. Editor window:

Again text in preferences editor window is fine:
