Sleep while running debug

Hi!
I had the following problem this morning: yesterday I was debugging a procedure and, when the day ended, I set the computer to sleep (OS: Vista). Unfortunately I forgot to cancel the step-to-step procedure execution. In the morning, when I tried to cancel the execution, PL/SQL Developer warned me that I couldn't do it until I logged in again. When I tried to log in again, I couldn't because of the running debug session. I had no other option but to kill the process via task manager to be able to log in again, but I feel that something was still running on the server.
If this situation arises again, what is the correct procedure to follow?
Thanks!
