scrolling with mouse wheel

Hi, when I have the cursor in the pane at the bottom of the program window that displays errors and hints, I will roll the mouse wheel to scroll down the list of errors and hints. Unfortunately, the effect is to scroll the program window above and not the errors/hints pane.

Second, can someone confirm that using the ALT key should allow column mode editing in the program window and, if so, what other settings need be in place for it to work. It isn't working for me.

Alt highliting works for me, but only with the mouse.
