Oracle Magazine advertisement

Ha Ha - I thought that also! I finally decided he might be finding water or starting a campfire or something.

I'm curious to know what's really going on though. Since I use PL/SQL Developer, maybe I can do it too?

Mike

That's a classic ad!

My thoughts:

"I'll have time to create a fire with sticks"

"I'll have time to fight cursed demons in the woods"

"I'll have time to join a tribe and learn their customs"

"I'll have so much free time that I can actually do any bizare activity and not feel like i'm wasting time."

This ad page is getting cut out and tacked in my cube baby. Love it.

You might be right. I heard that some programmers are that way.

I think I get it now. All of the "cool" programmers must be already using PL/SQL Developer, so you need to target your advertising for the geeks and your competition is advertising to the cool people. That makes sense.

Right? (Please say, "yes", Please say, "yes"!!!)

Yes, you're right of course :-) We aim our ads on non-PL/SQL Developer users. This is our next group:

ROTFLMAO! That ad is too funny!

Which one's Marco??? :)

Hey do you have a larger version of this ad graphic outside the forum so I can send it to a couple geeky friends?

Any chance of posting the PDF version of the one with the sticks (or any others)? These are totally cubicle wall worthy! I predict framed versions of these will be selling on ebay for thousands of dollars.

I assume 6 and 7 simply refer to June and July respectively. But just in case, are there versions 1-5 that are worth sharing? :)

This is funny to me. Someone complains about the ads portraying us as geeks, and now we can't get enough of them. What's up with that?

I took the superhero one and posted it outside of my cube. My son was playing "Superman" the other day, so I dressed up and played with him. I got a good picture to put next to the ad to show everyone that it's true. I think my co-workers that don't use PL/SQL Developer are jealous even though they laugh.

If you need more ideas, my geeky hobby is flying remote control airplanes. Maybe others of us have geeky hobbies too?

Mike

I don't get the "sticks" ad? I enjoy hiking and camping when I'm not using PSD, but that didn't seem like the point you were making was it?

How about an ad showing a programmer w/ 2 screens up, one running PSD and the other some RPG like EverCrack?

Some of the guys at my work mistakenly thought he was playing Dungeons and Dragons. They said they, "know a friend" that plays and said that's how it's done. I've never played so I don't know, but I don't see how that goes with their advertising theme.

I didn't get the sticks at first either. After seeing the superheroes one, I figured out the theme, so I'll help you out. It's about people that enjoy helping others in their spare time while wearing their pajamas.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the guy is going after a rabid animal with only sticks in order to save the community.

Do you see the concern in his eyes? His muscles are flexed ready to strike. He has his GPS watch that he could afford by all the money he saved using PL/SQL Developer. His mouth looks like he is making a mating call. By his hairstyle, I can tell he had to jump out of bed and into action. He enjoys helping others and there would be no way he could do that if he was stuck back at work. JUST NO WAY...

So you see, it's a good thing that this guy uses PL/SQL Developer, otherwise, an innocent nature photographer might have gotten bit by a giant rabid toad.

Hope that helps.

Mike

P.S. In case I am a tad bit off, I'm quite curious to know what it's supposed to be also!

I was checking and I found 2 other pictures:
Jan/Feb issue (no, Oracle Magazine is not a monthly publication) shows a blond girl wearing glasses, in a bar/pub, laughing.
Mar/Apr issue shows a guy with 2 iguanas (or would that be chameleons?) on his right shoulder.
So, I think yes: there are versions 1-5 that are worth sharing. ;)

@marco

Any chance of getting the may/june add (the one on the golf track) as jpg or bmp so I can stick it up as wallpaper on my PC at work. Just to irritate a colleague of mine who does not want to buy a PSD license and keeps on using that 'frog thingy'.

Sorry for bringing this up again, but I couldn't help it. When I saw this month's ad with the RC plane, I laughed!

That was a great idea, huh? It's definitely hung up outside my cube!

PL/SQL Developer is the best and you guys are great! :D
