I recently evaluated plsdev8 and then went on holiday for a couple of weeks, so I can't re-try anything suggested in response to this. I thought I would share my feedback on the file browser in case allroundautomations like the ideas and wish to consider them for a future release.
We use several directories as part of our product and in those directories some of the file names differ only very slightly. We also - as a software supplier - often edit different version trees of the same file in more than one directory tree to remedy a problem (ie: including bug fixes for old versions in the latest release).
Whilst evaluating, I did find an odd thing with the File Browser: if you name a parent folder, then that child appears in every subfolder of the parent.
I also found that with a long list of files in a directory, the colour coding for the folder is not evident. I used the colour coding to indicate which version of the product the folders related to so that I knew what I was opening, but the colour coded folder has scrolled off the top of the window :-(.
As an enhancement, what I thought we might find useful would be to have the file browser show those files that have the same name as a file in the project towards the top of the list for that folder. The file in this folder may not (yet) be in the project, but we're likely to be editing it, too.
Integration with Windows Explorer would be nice - eg: context menu, ...
Well there's my 2p
