It would be great if there was a preference to select between the current MDI or a Tab based interface.
The MDI would be as it currently is. Where the Tab based would allow the user to select where the tabs are displayed (Top, Bottom, Left, Right) and if the tabs wrap or scroll. A Tab would be exactly the same as a Window in the MDI version. The open windows panel in the bottom left corner wouldn't be needed any longer.
The world is changing and tabbed interfaces are becoming popular, not because they are a fad, but because they are very useful and easier to work with than the older style of MDI.
I an many others at my company would welcome this enhancement.
