details for data generator master table usage

Hi.
I can't quite seem to get the data generator to work for the 'master' feature.
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I did the following:

choose myobjects in browser window on left
activate data generator via menu
There are three fields. The third one is one I'd like to populate using another table.column.

I can't see anything in the third row Master dropdown, so I use the icon to 'add existing table' and select table I want to get data from.

Now I click on the third row in the data generator window in the Master column, and select the 'existing' table.column I just added.

When I generate data I get just question marks in the third column. I suspect I need to add something in the Data column in the data generator in the third row to use the Master column value I selected, but I'm not sure what.

Can someone point out my missing link(s) here? thanks much

If you have 2 (or more) tables in the data generator, you should be able to see the fields from the other tables in the dropdown list. Can you confirm you have a second table with fields?
