copy to excel in sql result window fire up tmp001.xls in wordpad not excel !

I am using PL/sql developer version 7.0.0.1063. Old but my colleagues are using the same version and no problems like this.

Desktop is windows 7. It just started yesterday. I wonder what caused it.

I can select all / copy with header then open a new excel and paste which is not what I used to be doing.

My colleague fixed it. He suggested checking the default program as follows :
Under Control Panel / All Control Panel Items / Default Programs
click Associate a file type or protocol with a program list. The .xls was incorrectly set to wordpad for some reason !
click Change program to fix it back to Microsoft excel !
