Connect to oracle without oracle client

Hi

As you surely noticed is it now possible with the new version of ODAC Net 3.0 from Core Lab to connect to oracle direct via tcp/ip - that means without the oracle client.
Are you planning to do the same? If you do that, when can we expect the new update?

Marco,

Although it is not in your plan now, I strongly suggest you consider it in the near future. I do not know about others' needs, but I can tell you that my customers frequently ask for connecting to the database through the internet, without having to configure the Oracle client on each machine. So far, this means using Asta DOA server or other middle-tier solution. This is not ideal and makes it highly desirable to have a more direct approach to the problem.

Hi Marco,

I recently reviewed their product. The Net option is an excellent option for me, because I have an ASP app that I will now be able to sell to anyone with no prerequisite software needed. I wish you had an option like this, because I love your product and support, but am in a bind. I really have a need for this.
I must say I saw no support options on their site and they have no online samples or FAQ, no newsgroups and certainly no Marcos!
Thanx,

How do they do that? Are they using a thin JDBC connection?

I do not have a current need; but it looks like an interesting feature.

Quite a few posts about it in the Borland forum.
