compile time

Hi,

We have a rather large package, and when we try and compile it using PL/SQL developer it takes about 10-15 minutes to compile. When I use sqlplus it will compile in seconds. In addition, both the cpus of the machine I am running pl/sql deveoper on, run at around 50% for the whole time this compile is taking place

What is PL/SQL developer doing that takes this greater amount of time. Is there anything that i can do to make it compile quicker

Thanks

Geoff

Perhaps you can disable the "Add debug information when compiling" preference and try again? (Tools > Preferences > Debugger tab page).

You can also try to simulate the problem in SQL*Plus:

SQL> alter session set plsql_debug=true;
SQL> @your_big_package.sql

This should show the same symptoms if the debug info is the cause of the problem.

If that doesn't work, two things I thought of trying are:

1. Turning off the "show compiler hints after compiling" option on the "Program Window" tab in the preferences. If it's a very large program, I would think it might take awhile to figure out all of the hints. I haven't noticed any long wait times, but maybe it's worth a try.

2. Check the "allow compilation while running" if there's a chance that the program is running, or better yet, make sure that the program isn't running while compiling. This has happened to me before.
