Blank message logging into SQLDeveloper

When attempting to log into an Oracle 8 database via SQLDeveloper, I receive a blank message box, that only has an OK button.

When clicking the ok button, it returns me to the logon screen.

I am able to connect to the same database successfully on the same PC via SQL*Plus.

Any helpful information as to what this message is trying to tell me, and how to fix it would be appreciated.

This blank message typically indicates an Oracle Net configuration issue. Can you go to Help > About, press the 'Info' button, press the 'Copy all pages' button on this info screen, and paste this text into an e-mail reply?
