Beautifier not available

When editing source code the beautifier menu item is sometimes grayed - and sometimes it works - cannot figure out the rule - any ideas?

Maybe the difference is a read-only source vs a writeable source?

 

of course... thanks - works pretty well, apart from choking on a 3950 line file, admittedly a difficult one - others work fine
