ALT+TAB leaves PL/SQL Developer 10 window in foreground

Since upgrading from version 9 to 10 I now have the following issue, which wasn't there before:
  1. Starting (a new instance of) PL/SQL Developer 10, either connect to a DB or not, getting full window with window menu, object browser etc..., maximized.
  2. ALT+TAB to another window leaves PL/SQL Developer in foreground, yet the window itself is not active (aka "grayed"). This behaviour might vanish after some time. However:
  3. Starting another instance of PL/SQL Developer 10, getting full window.
  4. ALT+TAB to the window of a previously started instance gives the very same: the other window becomes active, but it is still in the background, hence mostly invisible.
  5. When restoring windows instead of maximizing them, this "effect" does not occur always, but switching forth and back between PL/SQL Developer windows fast enough gives the very same: the ALT+TAB target window gets active, but is still in the background instead of the foreground.
This gets annoying pretty fast, as I use the keyboard alot. Switching program instance windows by clicking with the mouse on the task buttons is a workaround, but no solution.

I had the same issue using Windows 7 and the only way to solve it was to enable "Aero" option at the O/S. Not sure whether "Aero" exists in XP though, it's been a long while since I was using them.

It happens to me as well, I'm using Windows XP and 10.0.4.
The problem occurs when using ALT+TAB very quickly (i.e. press both ALT and TAB in an instance of a second) to switch from PL/SQL Developer to another window. When this happens I noticed that PL/SQL Developer thinks I just pressed ALT and thus highlights "File" menu option. This indeed didn't happen in v9.

Hi,
I see the topic is very old, but we also have the same problem.
Do you have a solution for this?

Thanks.

Hi -

I'm getting the same issue after having upgraded to Win7 and PL/SQL Dev 10. Some other things I've noticed:

1. If you alt+tab past the second PL/SQL Window and alt+shift+tab back to it, the problem does not occur.
2. If you alt+tab all the way around your window list and then to the second PL/SQL Dev window, the problem does not occur.
3. It doesn't seem to matter how slow or fast I do alt+tab - if I go direct between two PL/SQL Dev windows, the problem occurs
4. Since the window you're trying to switch to has focus, just isn't on top, you can use alt+space to open the window control menu and restore/maximize the window to get it to the front.

All of those are really annoying workarounds. Hoping there's a solution in the works for this.

Thanks.

Any update on this issue? It still happens with 11.0. Enabling Windows Aero fixes it, but I really don't want to use Windows Aero.

You've tried in Windows 7 with Windows Aero turned off (switch to Windows Classic theme in Control Panel -> Personlization)?

Hi,

we are using version 12 of PL/SQL-Developer. Same problem here. After using PL/SQL-Developer for a while (remote or locale) PL/SQL Developer stays in foreground.

Please help
