I would like to connect to the db server using its IP, rather than its name in order to install as few oracle components as possible in the client. I haven't found an option like that....
Do you know how to this? Or do you know how to trick oracle to make it found a tnsnames.ora file written by myself?
Thank you.

The most straghtforward solution is to use Oracle EZCONNECT. This way you can simply use an expression like \\hostname\sid, where hostname can be a name or ip-address, and sid is the database name on that host. No tnsnames.ora file required.
