I use a simple TDBRichEdit control to save text in the db using a lob.
On a LAN this is not a great problem. But now i have to use a <64kBit line and to fetch over 500kB is a noticable delay.

Is it possible to compress to data on the way to the database und decompress on a way, that the visual controls do not see this. There is a delphi compress streaming component, but i don't know how to combine this with the lobs with a TOracleDataset

I don't think you can accomplish this in a way that is transparent to data-aware controls. It is an interesting thought though, maybe we can implement this in the TLOBLocator object.
